RDMIA Bylaws 2011

Semi-Annual Meeting in October 2011

Here are pdfs and powerpoints of the presentations:

Bill Comfort, RDMIA President pdf pp

Chuck Carlson, Aptos Creek pdf pp

Lorin Letendre, Carmel Experience pdf pp

Kristen Kittleson, Aptos Creek and Steelhead and Goby Habitat pdf pp

The following are responses to our questions from Ellen Pirie. Thanks to Ellen for all of her hard work!

Aptos Creek Bridge cleaning. Can it be power washed? Is there any problem with permits? Public works. Yes, it can be washed with a power washer and DPW would give an Encroachment Permit. The graffiti was last removed before the Fourth of July by the Volunteer Center folks.

Development and Land Use
Rio Del Mar Esplanade/traffic circle. Update? Bids came in much higher than expected. Too high to include as part of the sewer project. We hope to work on it some more and put it out to bid in the spring.

Seacliff Village Plan. Under grounding schedule? This project has been waiting for the sewer project to be completed and the expectation now is that the PG&E undergrounding will be done in the Summer or Fall of 2012. The County’s streetscape project will follow the PG&E undergrounding.

Aptos Creek Lagoon The RDMIA and the Beach Island homeowners are organizing and fundraising to have a permanent project permitted (by something like 6 different environmental agencies) and constructed. The idea is to design a project that will protect beach access, protect the Island homes and improve the habitat for the steelhead and tidewater gobies that live in the creek.

Polo Grounds bathrooms I asked Parks to monitor and respond to port-a-potty problems more promptly. Also, we can’t schedule baseball/soccer tournaments there if we don’t have the facilities necessary for a large group. Pre-fab bathrooms can be purchased and installed for around $200,000 each.

Public Safety/Traffic Issues

Traffic light synchronization at Rio del Mar and Highway 1 Any improvement yet? I know that DPW and CHP have been working on it.

Recycling of compact fluorescent light bulbs. Is there an ordinance? Why doesn’t Ace Hardware participate? Why aren’t fluorescent tubes recycled? The information that we have is that the hardware stores take fluorescents up to 4 feet long. Beyond that they have to be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility at Buena Vista landfill.

Creation of a No Camping zone under the Aptos Creek bridge. I can take a proposal to the Board and ask that this area be added to the Camping ban. Sgt. Mitchell will work with me on it.
